During their time on the Associate Programme, our Associates work in two purpose-driven organisations and get hands-on experience with challenging industry projects. Placement hosts can be social enterprises, social divisions of for-profit companies or commercially minded charities. But who are these organisations and how do they make an impact? (Drumroll…) Please meet our April 2024 placement organisations!


British International Investment

British International Investment (BII) is the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor with a mission to help solve the biggest global development challenges by investing patient, flexible capital to support private sector growth and innovation. BII invests to create more productive, sustainable and inclusive economies in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, enabling people in those countries to build better lives for themselves and their communities. BII invests between £1.5 and £2 billion every year in green infrastructure, technology and other sectors that need their capital the most.

Part of the innovation foundation Nesta, Challenge Works exists to design and run challenge prizes that help solve pressing problems that lack solutions. They shine a spotlight where it matters and incentivise people to solve these issues. They are independent supporters of change to help communities thrive and inspire the best placed, most diverse groups of people around the world to take action. Clean Air Fund

Air pollution is one of the biggest threats to human health, climate, and the environment. Clean Air Fund is a philanthropic organisation that supports partners to create a future where everyone breathes clean air. They fund and partner with organisations across the globe that promote air quality data, build public demand for clean air and drive action. Clean Air Fund influence and support decision makers to act on air pollution.

Climate Impact Partners

Climate Impact Partners believe that carbon markets have a critical role to play in delivering action by putting a price on carbon and funding carbon reduction projects to meet our global climate goals. Climate Impact Partners develop and deliver the highest quality carbon financed projects, from which the organisation creates carbon credit and energy attribute certificate portfolios for their clients. This enables organisations to offset the emissions they can’t reduce, put a price on carbon to incentivise change, and meet their ambitious climate goals.

Compass Wellbeing CIC is a health-oriented community interest company that has a focus on tackling health and social inequalities and benefiting the local community. Cotswold Fayre is a fine food wholesaler supplying independent retailers with quality fine food and gourmet food products sourced from the best producers from the UK and across the globe. The organisation shares a passion for food and the positive impact they have when they share a common purpose – for people, for businesses and for the world we live in.

Ember are an independent energy think tank that aims to accelerate the clean energy transition with data and policy. Ember envisions a future energy system that is reshaped around clean electrification, as abundant solar and wind power drive down consumption of fossil fuels across every sector, including transport and heating.

Fair4All Finance

Fair4All Finance is a not-for-profit organisation driving change in financial services to help people in vulnerable circumstances. They invest in organisations focused on providing financial products and services to people who are otherwise excluded from access to fair and affordable provision. Their focus is on scale and impact: they evidence what works, support development and innovation in delivery and drive significant increase in scale and reach. They also identify areas where regulatory and policy change could accelerate market development, based on research and evidence of what works in the UK and internationally.

Fair for You is a Community Interest Company wholly owned by the Fair Credit Charity. The Charity’s objectives are to advance education in relation to money management, relieve financial hardship and prevent poverty. Since it started in 2015, Fair for You has generated an estimated £300 million of social value for its 50,000 customers.

NHS NEL Healthcare Consulting

NEL Healthcare Consulting are an NHS consultancy service, and it is their ambition to help transform services and improve outcomes across the NHS. Their consultants bring their extensive public, private and third sector experience to bear on the NHS’s most complex problems, as they advise, deliver and support bespoke portfolio, programme and project management solutions and end-to-end transformation services. NEL have supported some of London and the South East’s most important and complex health and care projects, helping to keep people well and improve care.

SaniTap

SaniTap builds climate resilience and improve the health of very low-income communities in Madagascar. Their flagship initiative will provide safe drinking water to over 4,310 communities by restoring, and then maintaining, existing wells which have fallen into disrepair. It will provide ongoing regular maintenance and emergency repair to ensure the availability of continued clean water (minimum 95% uptime) for 15+ years, building climate resilience and improving the health of very low communities in Madagascar.

Save the Children UK

Sustainable Ventures

Sustainable Ventures was established during 2011 with the vision of a world in which the challenges of sustainability and resource scarcity are addressed through commercially viable solutions. Focusing on innovation and collaborative exchange, they developed commercial propositions into ventures that address real-world sustainability issues. Successes to date include E-Car Club, the UK's first crowdfunded exit with its acquisition by Europcar, and Powervault, the British rival to Tesla’s Powerwall. Sustainable Ventures has since expanded into Investment (six seed-stage funds raised to date), Workspaces (over 750 innovators and entrepreneur members) and delivery of a range of venture and commercial support services.
