ECT Charity is both a charity and a social enterprise that combines business thinking with social values to deliver high quality transport services that positively benefit the local communities. ECT Charity’s community-based door-to-door transport services help keep disabled, isolated and lonely people independent and mobile. Its vision is for inclusion and accessibility for all members of society, whatever their transport needs. ECT Charity’s ground-breaking report “Why Community Transport Matters” sets out two studies to help community transport organisations around the UK demonstrate their social value and the impact they have on health, wellbeing and communities. In the first report, ECT Charity collaborated with Deloitte on a major piece of research into the economic cost of loneliness and isolation, and concluded that the national economy could save up to £1.1bn by supporting community transport organisations. The second study outlines a measurement system for the community transport sector to determine the social value of the transport provided to local community organisations including vulnerable and isolated individuals. In 2012 ECT Charity delivered, as lead partner, the London 2012 Accessible Shuttles project on behalf of the Olympic Delivery Authority. Mayor Boris Johnson hailed the team “the unsung heroes” of London 2012. In 2014, ECT Charity provided a high-quality Accessible Shuttles service for the Invictus Games. ECT Charity also provided the Accessible Shuttles service for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, covering all matches played at Twickenham and the Olympic Stadium throughout the six week duration of the tournament. On Purpose Associates will work closely alongside ECT Charity’s CEO and Senior Management Team during a time of significant growth of the business. Depending on their skills and interests, the Associate’s placement may cover projects linked to business and organisational development, or alternatively, to operational-focused projects that encompass both the business and social side of the organisation.
