Luke Smith
Before On Purpose, Luke has championed a movement in the engineering sector towards global responsibility. While working at Engineers Without Borders UK, Luke helped to introduce and enhance new pedagogies for higher engineering education providing students with real world case-studies that developed an understanding of designing for people and planet responsibly. During this time he also built the capacity of engineering institutions in Cameroon, Somalia, South Africa, and the USA, as well as lecturing to roughly a third of undergraduate engineering students in the UK. Following this, Luke worked at the Royal Academy of Engineering to support the development of a global community of 1,500 engineering entrepreneurs from 19 countries whose engineering innovations were working towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This experience has led Luke to be a highly skilled project manager, partnership manager, facilitator, and coach for international and national teams. Luke also has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, has consulted in the water sector designing sewage and wastewater treatment solutions, and founded a company in the wake of the cost of living crisis selling electrically heated clothing to reduce energy bills.
