Reem Akl

Before joining On Purpose Reem worked for five years in the non-profit arts sector, most recently as Festival and Community Engagement Producer at Shubbak, the UK's largest festival of contemporary art from the Arab world. From 2013-2016 she co-led the Arab Image Foundation (Beirut, Lebanon) a collection dedicated to the preservation and study of photography. Prior to that Reem worked for 6 years in international trade and project finance in London, with a focus on public and private sector entities in Sub-Sahara Africa and Eastern Europe. Reem holds a BA in Economics from the American University of Beirut and an MSc in Economics and Economic History from the London School of Economics. She also earned an MA in Documentary Photography from the University of the Arts London, and has undertaken a number of photography research projects.
