Joseph Rowntree Foundation
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is an independent social change organisation working to solve UK poverty. We were established over 100 years ago by Joseph Rowntree, a visionary quaker businessman and social reformer. He was committed to understanding the causes of poverty and disadvantage to create a better society. No-one should have to face the injustice of hardship or insecurity in their lives. We believe greater economic security will be achieved when more people have better quality jobs, decent affordable homes, and the support of a stronger social security lifeline. We're working on the solutions to poverty through research, and policy work in partnership with people who have lived experience of poverty. We are also working with private, public, and voluntary sectors, building the public and political will to advance solutions to poverty. We undertake the following activities to deliver our strategy:
* Evidence, economics, and policy - we fund and conduct research and analysis to achieve a deeper understanding of the causes and nature of poverty across the four nations of the UK and we develop bold, creative, and credible policy solutions.
* Innovation - we're investing in a major new programme of work, to imagine and grow radical new approaches to tackling poverty, in collaboration with partners and people with lived experience.
* Advocacy - We engage civil society through the media and grassroots advocacy projects, supporting people to take part in influencing opportunities on an array of issues, and as part of national policy campaigns.
* Social investment - we make purpose-led investments in social enterprises and impact funds delivering impactful outcomes aligned with JRF's mission and values.
