Shannon Trust works across prisons in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to address the significant issue of illiteracy amongst people in prison. Around 50% of people in prison either cannot or struggle to read and our model involves training prisoners who can read to mentor those who cannot by using our phonics-based reading programme, Turning Pages.
