On Purpose

Guy's & St Thomas' Charity

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is one of the UK’s largest independent charitable foundations. We combine this scale with being place-based – our work supports new ideas to tackle major health and care challenges in Lambeth and Southwark. As a place-based foundation, we work with partners to develop new approaches to help improve some of the poorest health outcomes we see locally - which also affect people living in similarly urban, diverse and deprived areas. We adopt a programmatic approach to tackling complex health issues such as childhood obesity and multiple long-term conditions. Working alongside others – and leveraging our convening power and ability to bear risk – we plan to learn and share what works, with the hope of catalysing action nationally and beyond. We seek new ideas from a diverse range of partners, including the NHS, local government, social entrepreneurs, third sector organisations and private companies, both locally, and from elsewhere in the world. Our awards range from a few hundred to millions of pounds and we support a wide range of ideas: from new health technologies to social entrepreneurial approaches, to major improvements in care. You will work on two major projects for the charity: We’re designing new ways to give out funding to drive impact – you will support the Portfolio Director to research and design funds which build on the legacy of the last On Purpose Associate’s work and research. Using design methodologies from the commercial sector, coupled with the best learning in philanthropy, you will lead mini projects that enable us be an internationally recognised, cutting-edge funder. For your second project, you will scoping new healthcare funds for us to invest in. Working with the Investment Director, you will conduct market research, network and attend conferences to identify funds and develop pipeline, and review funds to make initial recommendations
