“My years in the classroom have fired me up to improve the opportunities of the most disadvantaged or disengaged young people. This led to my founding Spiral, a skills and aspirations development programme for young people.”
Joel Balkwill
For the past 4 years Joel has worked as a passionate and dedicated teacher in challenging schools in Southwark, central London. He has managed volunteers in youth development programmes in London for the Challenge as well as in Colombo, Sri Lanka for SL Volunteers. Recently he has founded Spiral, a social entreprise which will improve the aspirations and opportunities for under-privileged young people. This comes from a deeply held belief that they are both essential for them to have an equal chance for successful, fulfilling and happy lives. He holds a BSocSc in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Manchester.
