On Purpose

Katherine Hewetson

Katherine joined the On Purpose team in May 2017 supporting the launch of the On Purpose CEO Programme and went on to co-lead the Associate Programme from 2018. She is also a Fellow of the Associate Programme, having been part of the October 2014 cohort in London.

Katherine’s early career was spent at Business in the Community, where she developed and managed a national programme to engage with 70 national employers to provide basic literacy and numeracy training in the workplace changing the lives of over 3,500 people. With a passion for fair trade, textiles and design she went on to set up her own fairtrade clothing and homeware company, Mi Mariposa, working with a group of embroiderers in Northern Ecuador.

As an Associate Katherine worked at Bad Boys Bakery, a bakery based inside Brixton Prison where she was responsible for the business element of the social enterprise and developed the entrepreneurial training programme of the trainee bakers. She went on to The Winch, a youth centre in Swiss Cottage to lead a collective impact project with Camden Council, a project to set up a children’s zone in North Camden.

Adult learning has been a core theme throughout Katherine’s career. She now takes the lead at On Purpose in designing the learning and development programme which is a core element of the Associates’ year.
