Impact is important to us at On Purpose, and we’re always thrilled to hear how our community is bringing about positive change. This week we shine a light on Peter Babudu, 2010 Fellow, who is now standing for selection to become a Labour Parliamentary Candidate.

After completing the Associate Programme in 2011, I spent a lot of time just working in the social impact space. For example, I worked for a consultancy where I helped organisations better understand and measure their impact.

Until recently I served as a local Councillor for Rye Lane, Peckham (2018-2022), a role which included supporting residents with any issues they have locally, along with my particular focus on young people, education and sustainable business in the area. Whether my constituents were facing problems of housing, parking, or community safety, I represented them and their concerns and additionally I scrutinised the council's approach to education and the local economy.

I am now standing for selection to become Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Camberwell and Peckham. I was born and raised in Peckham and in Camberwell. I’ve experienced first hand the challenges many residents face, so I’m standing to be a local voice for national change that will transform many lives across Camberwell and Peckham. I'm also the Associate Director of Research and Youth Understanding at the Youth Endowment Fund, which seeks to find out what works to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. Here, I'm responsible for leading on several lines of work, including the Fund's work directly with young people and our work to address racial disproportionality in the youth criminal justice system.

I'm furthermore chair of Blagrave Trust, a foundation focused on supporting young people with a difficult transition to adulthood. As chair I take over responsibility for the trust within a special focus on making sure that we are as youth led as we can be at all levels.
