Andreas Vassiliou

Andreas graduated from university and went into an Investment Bank where he was a Trader for almost 7 years, however he decided that he needed to take some time to reflect on what he wanted to achieve and how he wanted to contribute to society. He subsequently spent most of the following 2 years volunteering with different organisations across London as well as taking some time to travel South and Central Asia. During his volunteering he worked with numerous organisations who worked on a range of impact issues including trying to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged children and their peers via mentoring and then also with a tutoring charity. This was where he realised that one of his main passions is within early childhood development and education, and in particular ensuring all children have equal access to sports and development opportunities. Andreas also spent time with organisations focusing on food waste and trying to repurpose food that would go to waste as healthy meals that the most vulnerable need. He enjoys cooking and so getting experience within a kitchen catering for large amounts of people has also been insightful and enjoyable. Finally, he volunteered as a mentor within an organisation that was in fact led by an On Purpose fellow which helped refugees integrate into society by providing workshops and work experience for them. All of these experiences have opened his eyes to the world of social impact and ultimately led him to On Purpose and this incredible programme. Andreas is hoping during this year he can continue to learn a lot about himself and ultimately learn how he can play his part in making this world more equal.
